Michael Moore Plays a Trick on Movie Theater Audiences? [-->full article] Sat, 13 Jun 2009
What the heck is going on? I was told that there was a trailer for the new Michael Moore documentary that would be attached to showings of Taking of Pelham 123 this weekend. It'll be online in a few hours, but not all audiences will see it. SlashFilm has a report of a showing in Washington DC that had a message from Moore. Apparently signs saying that they were being recorded were plastered all over. Instead of a trailer with footage, Moore appeared on the screen and asked the audience to give...

Moon Hits Theaters in NY and LA Today - More Cities Soon! [-->full article] Sat, 13 Jun 2009
If there is one movie you just have to go see this weekend, it's Moon. Directed by first-time filmmaker Duncan Jones, Moon stars Sam Rockwell as an astronaut working alone on the Moon. It's one of those indies that needs as much support as it can get - and if you've been waiting to see it (and live in New York and Los Angeles) now is your chance. However, if you don't live in either of those cities, Sony Pictures Classics has setup a website to let you know when it will be opening in other cit...

Must Watch: Official Trailer for The Time Traveler's Wife [-->full article] Fri, 12 Jun 2009
Warner Brothers has finally debuted the long-awaited trailer for The Time Traveler's Wife on Yahoo today. This is the remarkable story of Henry DeTamble (Eric Bana), a dashing, adventuresome librarian who travels involuntarily through time, and Clare Abshire (Rachel McAdams), an artist whose life takes a natural sequential course. As I expected, this is much more of a romance movie than sci-fi or anything else, but that doesn't mean it doesn't look wonderful anyway. McAdams is always great in ...

Two stars from X-Men Origins: Wolverine will team up again to head to Mars. Taylor Kitsch, who played Gambit, and Lynn Collins, who played Wolvie's love interest Silverfox, will star in Disney's John Carter of Mars together. Wall-E director Andrew Stanton will be directing a script that he co-wrote with Mark Andrews and Michael Chabon. Kitsch will play the title character, John Carter, while Collins will play Dejah Thoris, the heir to the throne of Mars' Helium kingdom whom he falls in love wi...

Danny Boyle's Next Project Might be About Mountain Climbing? [-->full article] Fri, 12 Jun 2009
As part of the announcement today that Danny Boyle has signed a three-year deal with Fox Searchlight and Pathe, the LA Times hints that Boyle's next project might be a drama about American mountain climber Aron Ralston. Fresh off of winning the Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire, Boyle has signed a deal with Fox Searchlight and Pathe Pictures, who will co-finance and co-produce all of Boyle's projects for at least the next three years. Boyle previously worked with Searchlight on Slumdog Millionaire...

Frost/Nixon's Peter Morgan Hired to Write James Bond 23 [-->full article] Fri, 12 Jun 2009
MGM and EON Productions have announced the writers for the upcoming James Bond 23. Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, co-writers of Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, will return again. They will be joined by the Oscar nominated Peter Morgan, of The Last King of Scotland, The Queen, The Other Boleyn Girl, and Frost/Nixon. I don't think this means we can expect a very political Bond movie, but it does mean it will still remain in very British hands! Daniel Craig will reprise his role as Ian Fleming...

Joss Whedon's Short 'n Sweet Response to the Buffy Reboot [-->full article] Fri, 12 Jun 2009
As you probably now know, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is bound for the big screen once again. As you probably also know, it's not going to have any connection to Joss Whedon's beloved original series. At all. And, as you can probably guess, this has caused quite the rift among Buffy fans. But it's Buffy. Whedon has to be involved somehow. Right? While talking to Entertainment Weekly, Joss Whedon had this to say of the upcoming reboot: "I believe [the producers] did ultimately reach out to my agen...

Trailer for Paul Bettany's Charles Darwin Biopic 'Creation' [-->full article] Fri, 12 Jun 2009
Part ghost story, part psychological thriller, part heart-wrenching love story, Creation is the story of Charles Darwin and the single most explosive idea in history. This is a brand new trailer that I'm very excited to share with you today, as I didn't even realize this had even started shooting and yet it looks incredible. Paul Bettany stars as naturalist Charles Darwin and Jennifer Connelly as his wife Emma Darwin along with Toby Jones. Besides being a fascinating and controversial story, t...

Neil Marshall to Direct Robert Rodriguez' Predators Reboot?! [-->full article] Fri, 12 Jun 2009
For some odd reason, I thought Robert Rodriguez himself was going to direct the Predators reboot. But I was wrong. Bloody Disgusting has learned that British filmmaker Neil Marshall, of Dog Soldiers, The Descent, and Doomsday previously, will most likely end up being the director chosen to bring us more Predator mayhem. Rodriguez is still producing and developing the project at Troublemaker Studios with 20th Century Fox overseeing, but apparently Neil Marshall is in negotiations to direct (but...

Andrew Stanton's John Carter of Mars Shooting in November! [-->full article] Fri, 12 Jun 2009
Time flies. It feels like just yesterday when Wall-E director Andrew Stanton would answer every John Carter of Mars question with "we're just working on the script right now." A year later and now it looks like the script is ready. Fortunately it won't take four years to make like at Pixar. The news comes from the NBC station KSL in Salt Lake City, Utah (via SlashFilm). They report that thanks to a new tax incentive in the state, Disney will bring 400 cast and crew to Utah and shoot John Carte...

First Photo from Michael Moore's Wall Street Documentary [-->full article] Fri, 12 Jun 2009
Get ready for more controversy - Michael Moore is back. And he may be pulling a Cloverfield! Not only is there a new photo from his new documentary courtesy of USA Today, but we've confirmed that the trailer will be in theaters tomorrow. Here's the most interesting bit - the movie remains untitled. Apparently the trailer even lacks a title as well (it says something like "Michael Moore's New Movie Coming Soon"), similar to the first Cloverfield teaser trailer. Except his monster isn't destroyi...

Kevin Lima Remaking Don Knotts' The Incredible Mr. Limpet [-->full article] Fri, 12 Jun 2009
Warner Brothers is remaking the 1964 family comedy classic The Incredible Mr. Limpet and has hired Enchanted director Kevin Lima to direct. The original film starred Don Knotts as Mr. Limpet, an ordinary man who one day turns into a talking fish. After his transformation, he becomes a hero by helping spot and thwart enemy warships for the Allies during WWII. The original was a live-action-animation hybrid; the remake will also be a hybrid. This update has gone through several iterations, with ...

First Look: Eisenberg, Harrelson, and Breslin in Zombieland! [-->full article] Fri, 12 Jun 2009
The first few photos from Ruben Fleischer's Zombieland have finally made their online debut courtesy of Ain't It Cool News. This is the upcoming zombie comedy that stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Amber Heard, and Abigail Breslin. It's about, well, just finding a way to survive a world overrun by zombies. I expect we'll see a trailer either tomorrow or sometime next week, so stay tuned for that. A few months ago, we sent Kevin Powers out to the set of Zombieland in Georgia. ...

Kristen Stewart's New Look as Joan Jett for The Runaways [-->full article] Fri, 12 Jun 2009
This isn't an official photo, and we're trying to stay away from the gossip, but a paparazzi shot of Kristen Stewart sporting a jet black mullet hairdo for The Runaways has made its way online at Jezebel (via SlashFilm). Stewart plays singer and guitarist Joan Jett of the 1970s all-girl rockband band The Runaways. The biopic is being written and directed by Italian music video director Floria Sigismondi. I don't think anyone doubted that Stewart would be able to pull off the look, but it's gre...

Marcus Nispel to Fill In for Brett Ratner on Lionsgate's Conan [-->full article] Thu, 11 Jun 2009
Ever since we heard back in early May that Brett Ratner had been dropped from Lionsgate's new Conan movie, we've been waiting with bated breath (not really) to find out which director would fill in and take over the project. Apparently it's a name we're all familiar with - Marcus Nispel. Over at CHUD they're reporting that their "impeccable source" has confirmed that Nispel has indeed signed on officially to take over Conan. They don't know if they'll still make the August start that producer ...
