In Riddick 3, Vin Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy. Take a look a those two new pictures from the set:

Plot:
“The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.
The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.”

Besides Vin Diesel the cast of Riddick 3 also includes:
- Karl Urban as Vaako
- Jordi Molla as Santana, the arrogant captain of the mercenary ship
- Matt Nable as Boss Johns, a man looking for answers
- Katee Sackhoff as the Nordic mercenary Dahl
- Bokeem Woodbine as bounty hunter Moss
- Dave Bautista, Conrad Pla, Raoul Trujillo, Nolan Funk and Keri Hilson

Filming started in January. So the film will likely get released in 2013.

Look at the monstrous teeth of that nasty jackal! And see the saliva dripping from its maw? Doesn’t look like a pet, but I guess Riddick could totally tame that beast.

Anyway, Vin Diesel is training hard for the film:

Also I heard that Actress Katee Sackhoff, who played Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica, and Jordi Molla joined the cast of Riddick 3. Katee Sackhoff is set to play a character named Dahl, a Nordic mercenary on the hunt for Riddick. And actor Jordi Mollas should play the leader of mercenaries and primary villain of the film.

This concept art seems to confirm what Vin Diesel previously announced on his Facebook wall regarding the plot of Riddick 3:

“We’re going to find Riddick alone for the first part of the movie, barely alive, surrounded by carnivorous monsters who are trying to eat him. So you’ll see a futuristic Rambo-esque Riddick trying to survive.
[...]
David Twohy is scripting the next installment of Riddick as we speak, and it’s underway. The story will return to a Pitch Black [sensibility] while servicing the mythology that’s been enhanced in Chronicles of Riddick.”

Riddick 3 has been officially greenlit by Universal Pictures. Of course Vin Diesel is back as Riddick. David Twohy (who wrote and directed the first two films in the series, Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick) will helm Riddick 3 based on a script he wrote. The plot is still kept secret, but according to Vin Diesel we’re going to find Riddick alone for the first part of the movie, barely alive, surrounded by carnivorous monsters who are trying to eat him. So we’ll see a futuristic Rambo-esque Riddick trying to survive, which is closer in tone to Pitch Black the first film of the series. The film is likely to be released released in 2011.

“Aside from New Zealand, Egypt has been added to the list of locations for the upcoming Riddick Film.”

Well the project seems on a good track according to those tidbits that Vin Diesel shared on his facebook page:

I still wonder why Riddick would have left the Necromonger throne he won in Riddick 2. But I’m kind of happy to know that the franchise goes back to its roots and that Riddick hasn’t become fat king giving orders to his soldiers.

I wait with impatience for the movie Riddick 3!
