Walt Disney Pictures has finally revealed what is (let’s hope!) the final title of the Tron 2 movie. It will be titled Tron Legacy. Here’s a picture of the new logo:

“Tron is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidant (Olivia Wilde), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.”

It’s indeed about legacy with Tron 2: besides the original cast being back, the plot is focusing on the son of Kevin Flynn the hero of the first movie. So the official title of Tron Legacy for the movie Tron 2 isn’t that bad. But would have been better to stick to a title as simple as Tron 2!

Walt Disney Pictures has enrolled the French electronic-music duo Daft Punk to score Tron 2, the upcoming movie sequel to Tron. I bet those two geeks are damn happy:

I really enjoy their electronic sound (I’m especially fan of the song ‘Around the World’). It would be nice to see them getting some cameo too in Tron 2.

Shouldn’t be that much work to integrate them into the network of Tron 2 after all!

We just learned (via Slashfilm) that Disney announced that Garrett Hedlund will have the lead role in Tron 2.0, the movie sequel to Tron. The rumor is that Garett Hedlund will play the role of man who get sucked into the computer program and finds himself retracing the steps of a character from the original movie named Kevin Flynn (originally played by Jeff Bridges who is also reprising his role for the sequel).

This will be the first real blockbuster Garett Hedlund is starring in. Hope he will surprise us in the movie Tron 2.0!

We just learned via Coming Soon that Bruce Boxleitner who played the role of as Alan Bradley, aka Tron, in the first movie is set to return in Tron 2!

With both Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner reprising their roles it is clear that Disney is counting on fans’ nostalgia!

I supposed they checked the negative buzz following the title change to TRZ and are now rolling back to a more friendly TRON 2.0 (the plot has no relation with the game of the same name as far I know). But I’d suggest to leave the .0 part (unless Disney wants to get a featured post on Michael Arrington’s Techcrunch…) and just go with the streamlined title of TRON 2!

According to latest issue of Production Weekly the movie Tron 2 would actually be titled TRZ instead of TR2N as initially thought.

Also a first synopsis has been unveiled for tron 2, er, the movie TRZ I mean:
“After being transported into the surreal landscape of a mainframe computer to destroy an intruder, a programmer finds himself allied with the leader of a rebellion against a corrupt cyber-entity.” In the original Tron, the programmer Flynn (played by Jeff Bridges) was transported into the computer world. He joined with Tron, the leader of a rebellion, to fight a “corrupt cyber-entity” as well.

The plot would hint that the dark side of tron has taken over following his victory in the first tron movie. Could be a nice plot but I’d rather see the movie titled Tron 2….

And what could z stand for in TRZ?

The Tron 2 trailer shown at Comic Con was actually a test footage to check the feasibility of the Tron sequel. But don’t worry, Jeff Bridges, seen overlooking the game grid, is indeed in the cast of TR2N. No other original actors seem to be involved though.
It has also since been confirmed that Director Joseph Kosinski has decided that the movie Tron 2 will be in 3D. Cannot expect less from TR2N!

The first Tron movie was about a computer geek sucked into a virtual world by an almighty computer, the MCP (which stands for Master Computer Program Master Control Program), and he had to battle in video games to make his way back to the real world.

Younger readers may better know Jeff Bridges for his role as Obadiah Stane / Iron Monger in Iron Man.
