Director Ron Howard (who helmed Rush and The Da Vinci Code) is currently filming Heart of the Sea, an upcoming period drama based on the novel “In The Heart of the Sea” written by Nathaniel Philbrick about the loss of the whaling ship Essex in the Pacific Ocean in 1820. The filmmaker shared a few behind-the-scenes pictures via his official Twitter account:
“Based on the 1820 event, a whaling ship is preyed upon by a sperm whale, stranding its crew at sea for 90 days, thousands of miles from home.”
The film is starring Chris Hemsworth, Cillian Murphy, Ben Wishaw, Brendan Gleeson, Benjamin Walker, Paul Anderson, and Charlotte Riley.
There’s no official release date yet. It should hit theaters sometime in 2014.
