THE PERSONAL HISTORY OF RACHEL DUPREE

In the Badlands pride means nothing, family means everything.

Based on the award winning novel by Ann Weisgarber.

Plot synopsis:
“Badlands, 1917. Rachel, heavily pregnant, is holed up on an isolated ranch with her five starving children.
Playing an unsettling game of cat and mouse with her ambitious, stubborn husband, she knows her family will never survive the impending bitter winter unless he relents and allows them to leave. Taunted by the secrets and lies that scatter her marriage to a man she loves with such passion yet somehow barely knows, Rachel finds herself forced to take matters into her own hands.
As she takes stock of her choices, she prepares to fight with all her might for her family’s survival and for values that are worth more than land, ambition and public appearance.
Most of all she fights for herself and for her children to be free.”

I haven’t read the book the film is based on. Is it any good? Anyway, since the Viola Davis and Mahershala Ali are on board, I can but be impatient to see the film.

The film has yet to get an official release date.

The Last Witness Movie
THE LAST WITNESS

To discover the truth, first uncover the past.

Plot synopsis:
“In post-war England, journalist Stephen Underwood (Alex Pettyfer) is keen to prove his worth. Working for a local newspaper he spends his days covering weddings and funerals while always on the lookout for a story that will catapult him into the big league. When he comes across the suicide of a Polish soldier from a nearby Displaced Persons Camp his journalistic instincts kick in, sensing something isn’t quite right, and his first port of call is to question Colonel Janusz Pietrowski, a Liaison Officer for the re-settlement of Polish troops under British command. Their meeting leaves Stephen unsettled – something just doesn’t quite ring true.
Stephen’s lover is Jeanette Mitchell, a Junior Commander in the Auxiliary Territorial Service working under Captain John Underwood, Stephen’s brother. Trapped in a marriage of convenience with a military intelligence officer, she shares Stephen’s dream of escape. It is during one of their clandestine meetings that Stephen witnesses a confrontation between a local farmer and Michael Loboda, a new arrival at the Camp, during which Loboda lets slip that he is Russian…not Polish.
Sensing a twist, Stephen questions Loboda to find out why he is posing as a Polish refugee. Loboda reacts aggressively but tries to give nothing further away. Later, unbeknownst to Loboda, Stephen discovers he is hiding a small cash-box containing a blood stained diary…
From here, Stephen’s investigation escalates as he finds himself embroiled in a dangerous, multi-layered conspiracy concerning the execution of 22,000 Polish military and civilians by Stalin’s secret police.
This is a fictional re-imagining of a bloody, heart-breaking, true tale. One that has been covered up for far too long.”

If you’re wondering what massacre they’re talking about, well it’s the Katyn massacre, a series of mass executions of Polish nationals carried out by Soviet Russia in April and May 1940 under Stalin’s orders. Stalin then cunningly accused the Nazis of doing it… More about this atrocious crime thansk to Russia Today in this video:

Truth Is Out: Katyn massacre carried out on Stalin’s direct orders

Besides Alex Pettyfer, the cast also includes Robert Wieckiewicz, Michael Gambon, and Henry Lloyd Hughes.

The film has yet to get an official release date.

THE UNRAVELLING

The only way out… is in.

Directed by Douglas Mackinnon.

Plot synopsis:
“It is 1963, the very peak of the wild cultural upheavals of the Sixties, when a straight-laced Harvard Law School jock Andrew Docker returns to his ancestral home in Northern England in order to claim his inheritance.
Arriving on the wild and desolate moors, he finds that the passing of time has significantly altered all that he remembers from his childhood. In its place he finds a country struggling to keep up with all that is changing around it, an older brother who appears to want him out of the picture…and a fratricidal curse that the locals believe has forced men to kill their own brothers for the last thousand years. Andrew has known about the curse of course – locals have talked about it for years – but what he soon discovers is that not only is the curse real, but HE is the carrier of it.
Caught in a spiral that will force him to murder his own brother or face being killed himself, Andrew must not only delve deep into the delusions that have tortured him for years, but also physically unravel the very fabric of time. In doing so, he will uncover an alternate reality – an Uberworld – that runs alongside our own but a thousand years in the past; a time when the two great civilizations of the world fought each other in the savage bloodbath of The Crusades.
Unlike traditional stories of Good vs Evil, Andrew will discover that the only way to conquer the powerful forces is to harness the deep fundamental evil that lies within himself. Indeed, within all of us.”

Am hooked by the plot synopsis of The Unravelling. I totally want to see how the whole thing will turn out. And you?

The film has yet to get an official release date.
