Girl Asleep US movie poster
GIRL ASLEEP

Everyone has an awkward phase, but this is just unreal.

Plot synopsis:
“In this vibrant portrayal of Australian adolescence, Greta Driscoll’s bubble of obscure loserdom is burst when her parents throw her a surprise 15th birthday party and invite the whole school! Perfectly content being a wallflower, suddenly Greta’s flung far from her comfort zone into a distant, parallel place—a strange world that’s a little frightening and a lot weird, but only there can she find herself. Equal measures Wes Anderson and Lewis Carroll, GIRL ASLEEP is an enchanting journey into the absurd—and sometimes scary—depths of the teenage mind.”

White Girl – Don’t do drugs
Plot synopsis:
“A harrowing portrayal of New York City youth that delves into issues of gender, race, sexuality, and white privilege – as seen by exciting new filmmaker Elizabeth Wood.
Equipped with platinum blond hair and a winning smile, NYC college girl Leah (Homeland’s Morgan Saylor) seeks out pleasure in any form. Between getting high with her roommate and snorting lines with her boss, Leah falls for Blue (Brian Marc), a young man dealing drugs on her corner. Within days, the two are selling dime bags to her boss (Justin Bartha) and his downtown friends and living the high life. Summer love crashes to a halt when Blue is arrested and Leah is left with a serious bag of his coke. Enlisting the help of an overpriced lawyer (Chris Noth), Leah finds herself deep in debt as she crosses all boundaries to get Blue back. Deliriously filmed in and around New York City, WHITE GIRL thrashes through an increasingly high-stakes game of hedonism. The most controversial film at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, WHITE GIRL is an incendiary exploration of race, gender and youth, inspired by first time writer-director Elizabeth Wood’s own experiences.”

Yep, it’s also a movie about misfits, but I’d rather watch White Girl than American Honey… And you?
