The film follows the involvement of Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford (Rhys Ifans) as the true author of the works of William Shakespeare.

Rhys Ifans got the lead role in Anonymous, an upcoming political thriller about who actually wrote the plays of William Shakespeare (the story is based on a theory that claims that William Shakespeare’s works were actually written by Edward de Vere). The film is directed by Roland Emmerich (who helmed 2012). The movie Anonymous will be released on September 30, 2011.
