Take a look to those three new official pictures of Guardians of the Galaxy, the upcoming science-fiction superhero movie directed by James Gunn for Marvel:

After the characters break out, they venture to Knowhere (the severed head of a celestial being that serves as a hangout for aliens) and visit the weird menagerie of the Collector (Benicio Del Toro). They also have to avoid two villains, Ronan (Lee Pace) and Nebula (Karen Gillan), who are in hot pursuit of Quill’s orb, which has the power to destroy the galaxy.”

The material we’ve seen so far kind of reminds me of the Australian science-fiction TV series Farscape: it’s the same mix of kitsch, humor, and awesome science-fiction.

I don’t feel like this film will perform that well in theaters… I mean all those aliens, and can’t say the film look that great… will the average moviegoer show any interest? Or will the film replicate John Carter’s poor performance?

The guardians are Marvel’s equivalent to the Green Lantern Corps from the DC universe.

– Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, a human resurrected as a green warrior with the sole purpose of killing Thanos
– Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser

– Djimon Hounsou as Korath
– Benicio del Toro as The Collector
– John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, the leader of Nova Corps

From what I heard, Thanos, the alien villain seen in the after-credits scene of The Avengers, will show up in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. According to the online rumor Vin Diesel (Dom from the Fast and Furious franchise) could play the role of Thanos. but take this with a pinch of salt for now…
