The end of Independence Day 2 obviously allows a new installment in the blockbuster science-fiction franchise. And actually there are already plans for Independence Day 3. Director Roland Emmerich even hinted at the direction the third film will take:

Yep, that sentient alien white orb from Independence Resurgence is going to share revolutionary technologies with mankind and we will join forces with other alien species to ring the fight to the evil locust-like alien hives across the galaxy.

I did enjoy both Independence Day movies, so I would totally welcome Independence Day 3. Let’s hope the film enter production soon!
