In this new featurette of 12 Years a Slave the cast and crew of the film talk about Solomon Northup, the free man kidnapped and sold into slavery whose life serves as the inspiration for the movie:

“In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery.”
