Plot:
“GAMER is a high-concept action thriller set in a near future when gaming and entertainment have evolved into a terrifying new hybrid. Mind-control technology is widespread, and at the heart of the controversial games is its creator, reclusive billionaire Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall). His latest brainchild, the first-person shooter game ‘Slayers’, allows millions to act out their most savage fantasies online in front of a global audience, using real prisoners as avatars with whom they fight to the death.

Kable (300’s Gerard Butler) is the superstar and cult hero of the ultraviolent ‘Slayers’. Kable is controlled by Simon, a young gamer with rock star status who continues to defy all odds by guiding Kable to victory each week. No technology is evil in itself: a technology to control minds like in the movie Gamer could have some useful applications, it could help to reduce recurring criminality for example. But I doubt there would be any organization trustworthy enough to manage the implementation of this mind-control gimmick… Would-be dictators, or just simple twisted minds, would pervert its use. So better this invention never to happen!

Can’t say that those stills of Gamer are dull, but knowing that the movie is going to deliver so much more, I don’t really understand why they aren’t releasing more interesting pictures… Better to watch the trailer of Gamer to get a better idea of what to expect!

Cable, the unwilling warrior pawn played by Gerard Butler, has a beautiful girlfriend who kind of reminds Mila Jovovich in the Fifth Element.

Looks like the movie will be titled Ultimate Game in France. Makes me think that Lionsgate should have kept the former title which was Citizen Game. Well, Gamer isn’t bad but not as good as Citizen Game…

Simon controls Kable (Gerard Butler) the on-line champion of the game, and with his every move tracked by millions, his ultimate challenge becomes regaining his identity and independence by defeating the game’s mastermind (Hall) through launching an attack on the system that has imprisoned him.”

Funny to imagine a big guy like Gerard Butler being controlled like a puppet by a weakling teen (no offense to weaklings: I’m a weakling too! just older). I hope that Lionsgate will show us more of the film Gamer soon.
