Actor Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock is set to play the role of Doc Savage in a new movie adaptation. The film is directed by Shane Black based on a script he co-wrote with Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry.
Plot synopsis:
“Doc was physically and mentally trained from birth by his father and a team of scientists to become the perfect human specimen with a genius level intellect. His heightened senses are beyond comprehension. He can even identify a women’s perfume from half a mile away.
Confidently, yet innocently he has zero social graces whatsoever due to his upbringing so every interaction he has with someone is direct, odd, often uncomfortable and amazingly hilarious.”

The film has yet to get an official release date but I guess it will be released sometime in 2018.

Only in Hollywood could a black man play a white guy in the movies. While I like the “Rock”, Dwayne Johnson, I just don’t think he fits the Doc Savage role especially if he ‘hams’ it up as happened with the character in the old 1975 movie with Ron Ely. That movie was a dismal failure, the upcoming adventure MUST be kept serious in the vain of Indiana Jones movies. Just don’t have confidence Johnson can pull it off and the movie works ONLY IF the main character, plot and Doc’s five aides conform to reality of the Lester Dent characters. Shane Black’s competing with the current Marvel comics heroes, he needs to be serious in developing the hero and aides to meet the Dent vision. Otherwise it’s destined to flop.
