MARY SHELLEY
Plot synopsis:
“She will forever be remembered as the writer who gave the world Frankenstein. But the real life story of Mary Shelley — and the creation of her immortal monster—is nearly as fantastical as her fiction.
Raised by a renowned philosopher father (Stephen Dillane) in 18th-century London, Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin (Elle Fanning) is a teenage dreamer determined to make her mark on the world when she meets the dashing and brilliant poet Percy Shelley (Douglas Booth). So begins a torrid, bohemian love affair marked by both passion and personal tragedy that will transform Mary and fuel the writing of her Gothic masterwork. Imbued with the imaginative spirit of its heroine, Mary Shelley brings to life the world of a trailblazing woman who defied convention and channeled her innermost demons into a legend for the ages.”

Her choices made her who she is, and she regrets nothing. A great writer, and a great woman!

Elle Fanning, Douglas Booth, Bel Powley, and Tom Sturridge - Mary Shelley Film

Plot synopsis:
“The film depicts the author Mary Shelley as a fiercely modern 19th-century woman, and her Frankenstein as the product of unbridled imagination and profound grief.
Daughter of political philosophers William Godwin and Mary Wollstonecraft, who died giving birth to her, Mary (Elle Fanning) is a bookish adolescent of humble means when she meets Percy Bysshe Shelley (Douglas Booth), who, though only 21, is already a celebrated young poet — and a shameless womanizer with one collapsing marriage already under his belt. Defying her beloved but disapproving father, Mary absconds with Shelley — her stepsister, Claire (Bel Powley), in tow. Mary seeks ‘unconventional approaches to living’, and finds it in spades with her debt-ridden bon vivant scribe, who desires neither monogamy nor the constraints of fatherly responsibility. Yet Percy believes in Mary, and two years into their union he whisks her away to a Swiss chateau for a summer of debauchery presided over by Lord Byron (Tom Sturridge), where Mary will confront personal demons and compose the most influential horror novel of all time.

Those young people obviously didn’t have to work in the field or at a factory…

The UK release date of the movie Mary Shelley is set to July 6, 2018. Not official US release date yet.

A Storm in the Stars Movie

Here’s a first look at Elle Fanning and Douglas Booth in A Storm in the Stars, the upcoming biography romantic drama movie directed by Haifaa Al-Mansour based on a script by Conor McPherson and Emma Jensen and starring Elle Fanning, Douglas Booth, Bel Powley, and Tom Sturridge:

(Click on the picture to enlarge.)

Plot synopsis:
“Mary (Elle Fanning) is a rebellious and outspoken teenager. When she meets the poet Percy Shelley (Douglas Booth), there’s a spark of attraction between the two outsiders who feel trapped within polite society. Percy is contrary and selfish, talking of sexual freedom and progressive ideas that are beyond the boundaries of their age. For sheltered Mary, it’s love at first sight.
When Mary’s family discover that Percy is married with a child, they forbid any further contact. Mary and Percy elope, taking Mary’s half-sister Claire (Bel Powley) along for the ride. It’s a scandal, and with Percy’s philandering ways, rumours of a ménage à trois are whispered everywhere they go. Claire willfully flirts her way into Lord Byron (Tom Sturridge)’s affections and Mary is relieved when they are asked to join the decadent poet at his house in Lake Geneva. It’s a chance to escape the gossip-mongering and restrictions of England.
During one stormy summer night, to distract Mary from Percy’s infidelities, Lord Byron suggests they all write a ghost story. All the pain and guilt that Mary feels about Percy, Claire and the child she lost, is poured into giving birth to Frankenstein’s Monster. The story is incredible, a classic that even Percy must acknowledge. But women don’t write books, and publishers certainly won’t print them. The rebel rises, and Mary fights for her creature and her identity, all at the age of eighteen.”

I didn’t know about Marry Shelley’s life… From the plot synopsis it sounds like she was a strong woman.

Anyway, Elle Fanning and Douglas Booth sure look cute together. Let’s hope the movie won’t disappoint!

The film has yet to get an official release date.
