No pity for those junkies! Judge Dredd is a real hero!
:)
The full official movie trailer of Dredd, the upcoming action science-fiction movie directed by Pete Travis and starring Karl Urban, has been unleashed online by Lionsgate:
Plot:
“The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge — a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.
During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.”
The release date of Dredd is set for September 21, 2012.

“She’s a prostitute who then kills her pimp and takes over his drug-running business. And Ma-Ma is a bit of a man-hater. I think of her like an old great white shark who is just waiting for someone bigger and stronger to show up and kill her. She’s ready for it. In fact, she can’t wait for it to happen. And yet no one can get the job done. She’s an addict, so she’s dead in that way, but that last knock just hasn’t come.”

So will Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) put her out her misery then? Will he be the one to kill her?

Plot:
“DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.”
Besides Karl urban, the movie Dredd will also be starring Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson, a telepathic new recruit who partners with Dredd.
This reboot of Judge Dredd will be much more faithful to the original comic book than Stallone’s film.
:)
The reboot Judge Dredd movie is still in development, but we already know who’s got the lead role as Judge Dredd: Actor Karl Urban is going to be the law in Mega City!
Judge Dredd is a phenomenal iconic comic book character, so it’s a world I know and it would be a privilege and a pleasure to be able to bring that to life.
Actor Karl Urban
This remake of Judge Dredd will be directed by Pete Travis based on a script by Alex Garland (who wrote the script of 28 Weeks Later).
:)
Director Pete Travis has been hired to helm the new Judge Dredd movie we talked about a few months ago. The film is not a remake based on Sylvester Stallone’s Judge Dredd, but rather a reboot that will be more faithful to the original comic book. I’ve heard that this reboot Judge Dredd movie will be in 3D. There’s no official release date. But since they now have enough financing, it should enter production quite soon.
John Wagner, the creator of Judge Dredd, is quite enthusiast about this new Judge Dredd movie:
“I have read the script (by Alex Garland) and seen Jock’s visual. While I can’t go into detail about the content I can say that it’s high-octane, edge of the seat stuff, and gives a far truer representation of Dredd than the first movie.”
Comics Writer John Wagner
Who do you want for the lead role as Judge Dredd?

The new Judge Dredd movie would be based on a screenplay from “28 Days Later” scribe Alex Garland with visuals provided by “The Losers” artist Jock.

As you may know there is a new Judge Dredd movie ahead. We don’t know yet if it is a remake,a sequel or a reboot. But concept arts of the new Judge Dredd have shown up online via Io9:

Well it seems the new team is decided to fix a few things that weren’t that great with Stallone’s Judge Dredd: like the outfit for example! I think the new Judge Dredd will be closer to the original source material. A real dark sci-fi tale of a bleak future in which most people have been left in the rut of technological progress.
:)
Do you remember Judge Dredd, the sci-fi movie set in a dystopian future starring Sylvester Stallone as a super super cop with instant field judiciary powers? Well that movie is gonna have a reboot or maybe it will have a sequel. It’s been announced (here) on the official forum of 2000 AD, the weekly British science fiction-oriented who was behind the original Judge Dredd comics:
“Rebellion and 2000 AD are proud to announce that Judge Dredd is coming to a cinema near you soon!
Together with DNA Films, the movie production company behind such great sci-fi movies such as Sunshine and 28 Weeks Later, Judge Dredd will go into production in 2009.
Jason Kingsley, CEO and Creative Director said, ‘We can’t give away too many details at this point, but we’re looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen.’
We’ll keep you up to date with breaking news as it happens!”

If the movie goes in production in the second half of 2009 (I doubt it would start before), considering that post-production would require a lot of CGI I guess, we may expect this new Judge Dredd movie to be released in 2011 and if lucky end of 2010.
Let’s remember the original Judge Dredd movie with this theatrical trailer:
Judge Dredd (Sylvester Stallone) was the law:
Judge Dredd: I am the law!
Don’t know yet what is ahead, reboot Judge Dredd remake or Judge Dredd sequel (or even a prequel?) but I bet they will somewhat update this damn kitsch outfit Stallone was wearing:
All that’s quite sure is that Sylvester Stallone will not have the lead role: he’s definitely too old for the character by now (besides he’s busy with Rambo 5).
The original Judge Dredd movie was already cheesy even in 1995 but this news makes my day: I did like the movie at the time!
