The movie plot of Xerxes, the prequel to 300, has been revealed by Director Zack Snyder:
“This movie follows Themistocles and the Battle of Artemisium, which coincidentally happens on the exact same three days as the Battle of Thermopylae. This one starts off with a quick retelling of the why of the Persian wars. It starts off at the Battle of Marathon and then it goes back to Themistocles finding out that Persians are invading again. and off we go over to learn a little bit about why Xerxes is the way he is.”

Xerxes promises to be an epic movie!
:)
cool!
it would be awesome if they turned the idealisation around and made xerxes the hero
thats what was so great about 300, it was the actual spartan myth rather than reality
i can dig it either way
Dear Stephen,
how can we make Xerxes the hero?He was the candidate for oppressor but he got owned. Also, the story of the Thermopylae is not a spartan myth but a reality although in the film 300 it wasn’t very realistically presented.
Regards
Sorry I worded that terribly, I meant that the way the film portrayed the Spartans as God-Like warriors clad in nothing but loin cloths and crimson capes was the Spartan “Myth”, not the actual event itself. That the writers of the graphic novel and the director of the film represented this Myth in such an idealised way was what made 300 so epic for me. And as for making Xerxes the hero, I think its entirely possible; History is rarely black and white, while the Spartan Myth portrays Xerxes as a monster, Historically he was a military genius who became obsessed with his own legend whilst trying to outshine his father as a conqueror.
If film makers and writers can make characters such as Satan and Dracula into Heroes then I can’t see why it can’t be done for Xerxes, maybe as a tragic hero or some such?
