Saw 7 The last Saw Movie?

Saw VII MoviePrevious plans of carrying the Saw movie franchise until at least Saw 8 could well be scrapped according to Scriptwriter Marcus Dunstan. So as a result Saw 7 would be the last Saw movie:

“I think it’s going to end with Saw VII. I have a very strong feeling it’s going to end with Saw VII. That’s something we’re debating now. You saw in previous interviews or discussions where we thought Saw VIII would be the last one where we had the first trilogy and the second trilogy and then sort of a grand finale wrapped up in two films. But frankly because Saw VI hasn’t performed as well as we anticipated, the idea is well why make two movies when we can make one really excellent movie that wraps up as best we can? And it’s going to be in 3D which sort of adds to the spectacle. So if you had to ask me, I don’t own the franchise, nor do I run the studio, but I have a feeling, a strong feeling that it’s going to be Saw VII which will be also known as Endgame. And nothing’s official yet, but that’s where we’re hoping things will go.”
Scriptwriter Patrick Melton

Well, since Lionsgate has forced Kevin Greutert to leave Paranormal Activity 2 to come back to direct Saw 7, I guess the Saw series has been kind of cursed by some evil demon. So maybe time for the Saw series to come to an end, yep…

Saw 7 vs Paranormal Activity 2

Saw 7 vs Paranormal Activity 2There is some confusion right now about what movie Kevin Greutert is going to helm. Paramount announced that Kevin Greutert would direct Paranormal Activity 2. But looks like Lionsgate isn’t much happy with this and they have decided to exercise an option from Kevin Greutert’s previous contract: the director would have to give one more year to Lionsgate to direct Saw 7, which means that David Hackl would have to work on something else… And for sure Kevin Greutert isn’t much happy with Lionsgate exercising the option, and he’s been even voicing his anger on his personal blog:

“I just had the task of telling my 83 year old mother that no, I’m not going to be allowed to direct the movie we were all so excited about when my family last got together, and that I’m being forced to leave town before getting a chance to see her again. Yes, I’ll be filming people getting tortured YET AGAIN. So we’ll have to put off me making a film she can actually watch for another year.”
Director Kevin Greutert

The movie industry is a real business, so can’t blame Lionsgate for trying to protect the Saw franchise…

What a PR mess!

SawLionsgate has decided to go 3D for the movie SAW VII. The third dimension will add a new twist to Jigsaw’s legacy. It takes longer to prepare the production of a 3D movie. This may explain why David Hackl is back to direct Saw 7 instead of Director Kevin Greutert who’s been helming Saw 6: just conflicting schedules, with Kevin Greutert still working on Saw 6.

Saw VII Movie in 3D

Scriptwriters Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton are in charge of writing the seventh Saw movie. And I guess they will swiftly find a way to integrate 3D into the realm of Jigsaw’s traps for the movie Saw VII.

Saw VIIt’s been announced, via Variety, that Director David Hackl (who started off as a production designer for Saw 2, Saw 3 and Saw 4, before directing Saw 5) will return for Saw 7.

Saw 7 David Hackl

David Hackl Saw VII MovieNot real clue why Lionsgate isn’t keeping Kevin Greutert (who’s directing Saw 6). But David Hackl did bring us a hit with Saw 5. So I won’t comlain about him coming back to helm the movie Saw 7.

By the way, Saw VII will start production in January 2010 for a release in October 2010.

It has been confirmed that Scriptwriters Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton will pen the screenplay of the movie Saw 7. So we may expect the same kind o twisted traps as in the previous Saw movies. And because the legend never dies, Actor Tobin Bell is back too, as the insane Jigsaw, he will be appear through flashbacks I suppose (actually Tobin Bell said he’ll keep his role till at least the movie Saw 8).

The director of Saw 7 hasn’t been announced, but we may fairly bet that it will be Editor-turned-Director Kevin Greutert (who directed the yet-to-be-released Saw 6 movie). But he may have to share the helm with Scriptwriter Marcus Dunstan, who made his directorial debut this year with The Collector. Update: David hackl is back to direct Saw VII

Saw VII Movie - Saw 7Regarding the release date of Saw 7: nothing official yet, Lionsgate will probably respect the tradition and release Saw 7 in October 2010.

Any suggestion to Marcus Dunstan Patrick Melton? What do you want to see in the movie Saw VII?
