John Cusack team up with Asian actors, namely Gong Li, Chow Yun-Fat and Ken Watanabe, to bring us Shanghai, an upcoming mystery drama movie set in China before the Japanese invasion. Have a look to the making of Shanghai with this behind the scenes featurette:

The title is maybe Shanghai, but the movie was actually essentially filmed in Bangkok, Thailand. The Chinese government refused its authorization to the production team, so, they moved to the South-East-Asian country where there are cheap and modern studios thanks to a booming local cinema industry.

I think they got it right for the costumes of the movie Shanghai. It will be a nice period movie.

John Cusack went to Asia for Shanghai, an upcoming period movie directed by Mikael Hafstrom. Back to the Western world he made a stop in London in June with the cast of Shanghai for a conference (was also to shoot a few scenes).
