Those dragons don’t want to be tamed, they just want to spit fire and burn everything to the ground! Fortunately the vikings know how to dominate those naughty beasts! :)
Plot: “A comedy adventure set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons.”
Jack Sully was allowed to ride a banshee and fly over Pandora, and Hiccup can fly with his own dragon over the ocean! On one hand I envy them, but on the other hand I’m quite glad there aren’t such dangerous flying beasts roaming in the sky! :)
Plot: “The film is set in a mythical world of vikings and dragons. The story centers around a viking teenager named Hiccup (Jay Baruchel), who lives on the island of Berk, where fighting dragons is a way of life. The teen’s smarts and offbeat sense of humor is disliked by his tribe and its chief, Hiccup’s father. However, when Hiccup is included in Dragon Training with the other viking teens, he sees his chance to prove he has what it takes to be a fighter. After he entangles a dragon with a bolas-shooting cannon, Hiccup releases and ends up befriending the dragon. This relationship flips his world upside down as he strives to convince his tribe that they do not need to be dragon-slayers.”
The poster comes to us from Japan, hence the manga feel to it. But I actually even suspect some Japanese influence in the very design of the dragon by Dreamworks! :)

The movie How To Train Your Dragon feels like Kung Fu Panda: it’s a funny character-driven story in which we may discover some quite interesting personalities. I’m quite sure that the movie How To train Your Dragon is gonna be a blockbuster. :)
How to Train your Dragon is the next Dreamworks 3D animated movie. It’s about an adventure movie about Vikings and dragons. Thanks to the cover of the movie tie-in book of How to Train your Dragon we may have a look to the Vikings at the center of the story:
The young boy in the middle is called Hiccup: he’s a young unassuming boy whose life is gonna change for the best when he encounters a fantastic dragon.

The film is based on the book of the same name by Cressida Cowell. :)
I think Dreamworks go a real blockbuster with the 3D animated movie How to Train your Dragon. The film looks to be close to an ideal mix of 3D animation, voice acting, plot and humor. Just check for yourself with this amazing bootleg clip of How to Train Your Dragon that was shown at IDF 2009 and just leaked online:
Plot: “From the studio that brought you Shrek, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda comes How to Train Your Dragon—a comedy adventure set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, based on the book by Cressida Cowell. The story centers around a scrawny Viking teenager named Hiccup (Jay Baruchel), who lives on the island of Berk, where fighting dragons is a way of life. The teen’s smarts and offbeat sense of humor don’t sit too well with his tribe or its chief…who just happens to be Hiccup’s father. However, when Hiccup is included in Dragon Training with the other Viking teens, he sees his chance to prove he has what it takes to be a fighter. But when he encounters (and ultimately befriends) an injured dragon, his world is flipped upside down, and what started out as Hiccup’s one shot to prove himself turns into an opportunity to set a new course for the future of the entire tribe.”
To create such vivid characters in 3D is no easy task. Dreamworks work hard for the dream to come true. And Lincoln Wallen, head of research and development at Dreamworks, confirms that it requires a lot of computer power:
“Our teams (Dreamwork’s and Intel’s) have been working together for about a year. It’s been a pretty intense collaboration. We talk about Shrek’s Law, a way of communicating that with each iteration of the Shrek franchise, the power required to meet our creative appetite doubles. There was a dragon in Shrek 1, but in our next movie, dragons are some of the main story characters. Some scenes have more than 1,000 dragons performing at the same time. Our creatives want them to be central characters, able to emote and bond with other characters. The complexity of animation is astounding. We need four times the animation controls.”

A thousand dragons on screen at the same time, and the whole thing in 3D: sign me up for the movie How To Train Your Dragon! :)
Update: a new trailer of How to train your dragon has shown up:
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON
Plot: “A comedy adventure set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons.”
Voice Cast: – Jay Baruchel as Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third – The main character of the film and son of chief Stoick the Vast. According to his cousin Snotlout, he is nothing like his father, is not suited to be the future chief, and is wimpy. Hiccup finds and befriends an injured dragon named Toothless, bringing into conflict his new friendship and the village’s tradition of dragon-fighting.
– Gerard Butler as Stoick the Vast – The short-tempered chief of the Hairy Hooligan tribe. He hopes his son will mature up and become strong enough to be chief one day, but it does not seem to go well for him.
-Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Fishlegs – Fishlegs is Hiccup’s best friend who does not seem to be good at any of the subjects that the teachers in the Viking training program teach. Fishlegs is nervous and frightened to do perilous things at times, but remains Hiccup’s best friend. He owns a dragon named Horrorcow.
– Jonah Hill as Snotface Snotlout – The son of Hiccup’s uncle, making him and Hiccup cousins. Snotlout hopes to be the chief one day, but Hiccup is the heir (in fact, if something happened to Hiccup, he’d be next in line for the job), which has spawned a hatred between them. He is strong and muscular, and is good at being a Viking. Snotlout owns a dragon named Fireworm.
– America Ferrera as Astrid.
– Craig Ferguson as Gobber the Belch, the head teacher in charge of the Viking Initiation Program. He’s loud, short-tempered, and finds everyone in his program pathetic.
Looks like we will have thrilling 3D rides on flying dragons in the Dreamworks movie How To Train your Dragon! :)
The next Dreamworks new computer-animated movie is titled How To Train Your Dragon. The film is based on the book of the same name based on the book by Cressida Cowell. It’s a comedy adventure set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons. The movie How To Train Your Dragon will be released on March 26, 2010.
There is already an official site, that evolves as the marketing team get more material and a better understanding of what to sell to the public. First there were focusing on the story:
Now looks like they want to emphasize that the movie will be in 3D:
Plot: “From the studio that brought you Shrek, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda comes How to Train Your Dragon—a comedy adventure set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, based on the book by Cressida Cowell. The story centers around a scrawny Viking teenager named Hiccup (Jay Baruchel), who lives on the island of Berk, where fighting dragons is a way of life. I hope that the movie How To Train Your Dragon will be closer to the spirit of Kung Fu Panda than to Shrek… :)
