Check out the first official trailer of Top Gun 2 aka Top Gun Maverick, the upcoming action drama movie directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, and Ed Harris:
TOP GUN MAVERICK
Plot synopsis: “The film takes place 34 years after the events of the original film and pits legendary Captain Peter ‘Maverick’ Mitchell as the new flight instructor of Top Gun, in which he guides Bradley, Goose’s son, who seeks to become an aviator much as his father was.”
Those pilots are like dinosaurs: they don’t know what’s going to hit them in a not so distant future. They are a but a species on the wane: swarms of automated drones and AIs are on the verge of replacing them. This sequel to Top Gun will be a period movie quite soon… It will still be a fun period movie though, lol!

Update – A few words from David Ellison, the CEO of Skydance Productions:
“It is very much a world we live in today where it’s drone technology, and fifth-generation fighters are really what the United States Navy is calling the last man-made fighter that we’re actually going to produce, so it’s really [about] exploring the ‘end of an era’ of dogfighting and fighter pilots and what that culture is today. The plot will take place in the present day to account for the decades between the sequel and 1986”
