A new Moon movie poster has been unveiled following the released of the trailer:(Click on the poster to enlarge it.)
MOON
950,000 miles from home
the hardest thing to face…
is yourself
“For me, the Moon has this weird mythic nature to it… There is still a mystery to it. As a location, it bridges the gap between science-fiction and science fact. We (humankind) have been there. It is something so close and so plausible and yet at the same time, we really don’t know that much about it.”
Director Duncan Jones
Moon sounds like a very promising sci-fi movie. But I guess it’s not mainstream enough to get a wide release… That’s a bit sad because this movie is definitely worth watching. You may check some preview clips of Moon at:
Location: Moon Sarang Mining Base
Crew: 1
Contract: 3 years
Plot:
“Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is nearing the end of his contract with Lunar. He’s been a faithful employee for 3 long years. His home has been Selene, a moon base where he has spent his days alone, mining Helium 3. The precious gas holds the key to reversing the Earth’s energy crisis.
Isolated, determined and steadfast, Sam has followed the rulebook obediently and his time on the moon has been enlightening, but uneventful. The solitude has given him time to reflect on the mistakes of his past and work on his raging temper. He does his job mechanically, and spends most of his available time dreaming of his imminent return to Earth, to his wife, young daughter and an early retirement.
But 2 weeks shy of his departure from Selene, Sam starts seeing things, hearing things and feeling strange. And when a routine extraction goes horribly wrong, he discovers that Lunar have their own plans for replacing him and the new recruit is eerily familiar.
Before he can return to Earth, Sam has to confront himself and the discovery that the life he has created, may not be his own. It’s more than his contract that is set to expire.”
This trailer may trick some people into thinking that the movie Moon is the usual sci-fi show… Well, it isn’t: it’s an independent science-fiction movie directed by Duncan Jones (David Bowie’s son), and it does not shy away from silence from time to time. And like any real sci-fi masterpiece, the movie Moon is not that much about technology gimmicks: actually it definitely emphasizes the characters!
Moon will have a limited release on June 12, 2009 .
:)
Director Duncan Jones must be fan of science fiction like his father David Bowie. Jones is indeed bring us Moon, an appealing science-fiction movie full of references. It is starring Sam Rockwell in the lead role and Kevin Spacey is lending his voice to the Lunar base AI. We may watch a few Moon preview clips thanks to Collider (here) and Omelete:
Sam I can only account for what occurs on the base.
This AI with its electronic eye is like a tribute to Writer Arthur C. Clarke and to Director Stanley Kubrick in a reference to HAL9000 in ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’. I am really impressed by the quality of the set and all its details. Sam Rockwell’s performance is also remarkable: he’s playing two roles at once with a real talent.
To help you better understand what’s going in plot, here’s an extract of the synopsis:
“But 2 weeks shy of his departure from Selene, Sam starts seeing things, hearing things and feeling strange.
Some may think that the pace of the movie a bit slow, but I think it’s a strength for such a sci-fi movie: it will render the movie experience even more realistic!
I’m damn impatient to watch Moon! Where can I buy my own Kevin Spacey AI robot? that’s better than a pet! And ifs it can run the Lunar base then it could run my house cleaning!
:)
Real sets and accessories have been crafted for the movie Moon: the result is quite realistic! Nice sets, a tricky twisted plot and a talented lead actor: Moon is going to be a great science-fiction movie!

I don’t think that Moon will be a sci-fi movie abusing of CGI effects and other artificial twist: judging from the synopsis and the pictures released so far it looks like an old school sci-fi movie. It will be refreshing to have a real sci-fi plot for once!
:)
The last place you’d ever expect to find yourself.
The movie moon is directed by Duncan Jones and is starring Sam Rockwell. Moon bring us back to the heyday of Science Fiction movies, both for the plot and the graphic feel. Don’t miss Moon!

Looks like we have a hardcore sci fi thriller movie ahead with Moon. The film is directed by Duncan Jones and is starring Sam Rockwell with Kevin Spacey lending his voice to some AI robot. The movie Moon should be released in 2009.
Thanks to Bloody Disgusting (here) we have some pictures of the movie Moon with Sam Rockwell:
Plot:
“Astronaut Sam Bell has a quintessentially personal encounter while stranded on the moon for a three-year period.” (Source: IMDb)
It looks dark like the hard core sci-fi movies from the 1970’s and the 1980’s: watching this sci-fi movie will be like going back to my childhood besides going to the Moon!
