Bill Condon Twilight Breaking Dawn

Twilight Breaking DawnDirector Bill Condon, who’s been hired by Summit Entertainment to helm Twilight 4 aka Twilight Breaking Dawn, wrote a note to Twilight fans:

Twilight Breaking Dawn Trailer

Greetings Twihards, Twifans, Twilight Moms, Team Edward, Team Jacob and Team Switzerland,

I just want to say hello to all of you and let you know that I’m stoked to be getting underway on the adventure of making BREAKING DAWN. As you’ve probably heard, I’ve been given a very warm welcome by Stephenie and Team Summit – who are super-focused, as you know, on getting these movies right.

I’m pretty busy bringing myself up to speed on what you already know by heart: I’ve read BREAKING DAWN twice, rewatched Catherine’s and Chris’s movies 2-3 times each, have all four CDs playing in my car, and have Catherine’s notebook, Mark Cotta Vaz’s companion books, and even Volume 1 of the graphic novel here on my desk – a corner of my office is starting to look like Hot Topic. I realize that this barely qualifies me for “newborn” status in the universe you’ve been living inside for a few years now, but a guy’s gotta start somewhere.

Like many of you, I’ve always been slightly obsessed with vampires, dating back to the prime-time series DARK SHADOWS, which I followed avidly as a kid. But that alone hadn’t been enough to get me interested in making a vampire movie, even though my early screenwriting and directing efforts grew out of a great love for horror movies and thrillers. Since making GODS AND MONSTERS thirteen years ago, however, I’ve been yearning for a return to a story with Gothic overtones.

The wonderful world that Stephenie has created has obviously struck a chord with you, and I don’t think it’s difficult to see why. For me, her characters are simultaneously timeless, yet very modern. Rooted in a beautiful, real landscape with a great sense of place, Bella, Edward, Jacob, and the rest of the Forks/La Push menagerie, experience emotions that are primal, and universal: desire, despair, jealousy – and it all comes to fruition in BREAKING DAWN. This is a final chapter in the best sense; not just wide in scope and scale, but emotionally charged and intense throughout.

I’m a huge admirer of the already-iconic Kristen, Robert, and Taylor, and wanted to be the one to work with them as they face the challenges of bringing your beloved characters to the end of their journeys. Really, what could be more fun than that?

Please feel free to ask questions in the comments section below, and I’ll do my best to answer them. I hope that this will be the first of many occasions I’ll get to check in with you as we set to work bringing BREAKING DAWN to the screen. I am excited and grateful to have all of you alongside me for my TWILIGHT journey.

All best,

Bill Condon

P.S. Answer #1: No, there won’t be any musical numbers

Dear Bill Condon, you’d better get it right, you don’t want to disappoint Twilight fans, do you?

Batman 3 Release Date

Batman 3 MovieThere’s no official plot yet for Batman 3, we don’t even know who’s going to be the next villain, but at least we now have a release date: the movie Batman 3 is set to be released on July 20, 2012. Well that’s the studios’ tentative schedule. So it may change…
:)

Chris Hemsworth Thor

Here’s a first look at Actor Chris Hemsworth as Thor in the upcoming live-action Thor movie directed by Kenneth Branagh:

Thor Movie Picture

(Click on the picture to enlarge.)

Plot:
“The film follows the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. It’s while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.”

Too bad we don’t see Thor with his signature hammer and his helmet on this photo. Well, if you go watch Iron Man 2 and wait for the extra scene after the end credits you will at least get to see Thor’s hammer.

Bill Condon Breaking Dawn

Twilight breaking Dawn Movie - Twilight 4 - Breaking Dawn the movieDirector Bill Condon (who once brought us Dreamgirls) has been hired by Summit Entertainment to helm Breaking Dawn, the last opus of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga. The film is quite likely to be split in two parts, and I guess Bill Condon will helm both.

Breaking Dawn Trailer

“I’m very excited to get the chance to bring the climax of this saga to life on-screen. As fans of the series know, this is a one-of-a-kind book – and we’re hoping to create an equally unique cinematic experience.”

Director Bill Condon

Plot of Twilight Breaking Dawn:
“Bella and Edward are finally together: following their wedding they go in honeymoon to an island off the coast of Brazil. Over there Bella, still a human, got pregnant from her husband Edward, who is a vampire.
The crossbreed child to be born is cause of concern even before her birth: the werewolves feel the child could be a threat to them (putting Jacob , and even the vampires aren’t really at ease…
During childbirth Bella loses so much blood that she is on the verge of death. But Edward must fulfill his promise to make his wife Bella into a vampire in order to save her.
Will Edward and Bella be able to save their daughter?”

As long as Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner are repuising their roles as Edward, Bella and Jacob, it’s all fine!

Jon Favreau Cowboys and Aliens

Cowboys and Aliens MovieCowboys and Aliens is Jon Favreau ‘s next project, a sci-fi western based on Scott Mitchell Rosenberg’s graphic novel of the same name. He explains to Coming Soon why he’s interested in directing this film:

Cowboys and Aliens Movie

“The Property [Cowboys and Aliens] isn’t what was appealing to me as much as the concept and the script. I read a great script and I loved the idea of mashing up those two genres and juxtaposing a very intense alien movie up against a very sincerely played Western. We draw inspiration tonally from movies like ‘Close Encounters’ and ‘Alien’ and ‘Predator’ for the alien side and for the Western side we’re looking at John Ford, Leone, and even a little bit of ‘Butch and Sundance.’
Once again, I’ve been very lucky in exceeding all my expectations in getting Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde. We’re slowly assembling a cast around this property, and I want to do something mind-blowing and it’s a great way to do a Western. I’ve always dreamed of doing a Western, and this seems like a way that’s actually responsible from a marketing standpoint, doing an alien invasion Western seems like something very unique and different in the summer next year, which is going to be all superhero movies and sequels. Seems like an exciting thing that might actually emerge as something unique and different. It’s a fun ride and it’s a chance to do something that plays a little bit older and a little bit more fun.”

Director Jon Favreau

Actually mixing western and science-fiction has already been done by a few B-movies, and it didn’t fare that well… But someone as talented as Jon Favreau could well succeed where many have failed. So let’s pray for the movie Cowboys and Aliens to be awesome!

Ant-Man Movie

Ant-Man MovieIt’s been a while since we’ve last heard of the Ant-Man movie, almost thought it was shelved. Fortunately Kevin Feige gave an update to Coming Soon:

Ant-Man Movie Trailer

“we started working on a calendar of when to get him [Director Edgar Wright] back into it once he finishes promoting ‘Scott Pilgrim‘. So I think towards the end of this year, early next year we’d start looking at early prep for that, but certainly for a release date after ‘The Avengers.'”

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige

The Avengers will be released in 2012, so still a few years before the release of the Ant-Man movie… But maybe he will show up in the Avengers, he was one of the founding members after all!

Alien Movie Prequel

Director Ridley Scott wants to make two new movie prequels to Alien. He revealed a few plot details:

“As we speak, I’ve got a pile of pages next to me; it’s like the fourth draft. It’s a work in progress, but we’re not dreaming it up anymore. We know what the story is…It’s set in 2085, about 30 years before Sigourney [Weaver’s character Ellen Ripley]. It’s fundamentally about going out to find out ‘Who the hell was that Space Jockey?’ The guy who was sitting in the chair in the alien vehicle — there was a giant fellow sitting in a seat on what looked to be either a piece of technology or an astronomer’s chair … Our man [Tom Skerritt as Captain Dallas] climbs up and says “There’s been an explosion in his chest from the inside out — what was that?” I’m basically explaining who that Space Jockey — we call him the Space Jockey — I’m explaining who the space jockeys were … [The film] is about the discussion of terraforming — taking planets and planetoids and balls of earth and trying to terraform, seed them with the possibilities of future life.

Director Ridley Scott

Those new Alien movies are likely to be in 3D.

Last Airbender 3D

Last AirbenderThe Last Airbender, the upcoming epic movie directed by M. Night Shyamalan, is going to be converted in 3D.

Last Airbender Trailer

Director Shyamalan is convinced it can be done well… I’ll still stick to the non-3D version though… Cheaper ticket, and much better quality!

Green Hornet pushed back to 2011

Green Hornet MovieThe release of the Green Hornet movie has been pushed back to January 14, 2011… Less competition on this new slot…

Green Hornet Trailer

I heard that Sony’s execs aren’t that happy with Michel Gondry’s take on the Green Hornet, and that they’re disappointed that Seth Rogen doesn’t really look the part. That’s probably why they prefer to avoid competition. But officially they’re saying it’s because they’re ocnverting the movie into 3D. The fatty Seth Rogen in 3D: what an exciting perspective!
