The Road Trailer

THE ROAD

Plot:
“An unnamed father (Mortensen) and his young son (Smit-McPhee) struggle to survive after an unspecified apocalypse and make their way toward the coast for possible food, shelter, safety, or to potentially find other survivors of the cataclysmic events. Along the way, they encounter grave struggles and hardships across the barren landscapes, with scarce shelter and resources available to them, and having to avoid bands of cannibals and other desperate gangs looking to pillage valuables and food. Various flashback sequences occur where the Man remembers events prior to the catastrophe, many involving his deceased wife, who has a much more expanded role in the film than in the original book.”

Cast:
– Viggo Mortensen as the Man.
– Kodi Smit-McPhee as the Boy.
– Charlize Theron as the Wife, who appears in flashback.
– Michael K. Williams as a thief.
– Guy Pearce as a father wandering with his family.
– Robert Duvall as an old, dying man.

I read the book, and even if I feel like the world was darker in Cormac McCarthy’s book, I still think that John Hillcoat’s The Road is a faithful adaptation. I’m quite impatient to watch The Road!

THE ROAD

in a moment the world changed forever.

Based on the Pulitzer prize winning novel by Cormac McCarthy
Author of “No Country Fo Old Men”

Plot:
“A father and his son walk alone through a post-apocalyptic America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape and it’s cold enough to crack stones. Hoping to escape the endless winter, they head south towards the coast, not knowing what awaits them there. Along the way they encounter refugees, organized militants, and must avoid gangs of lawless killers. With the exception of a pistol with 2 bullets, the clothes on their back and a cart of scavenged food, they have nothing. All alone, the boys must struggle to survive in a world no longer capable of sustaining life.”

Nice poster, but too many colors to be faithful to the bleak vision of Cormac McCarthy… But I guess it’s easier to sell than a dark screen filled with smog.

The Road Movie Trailer

THE ROAD

10 years from now one event will change the face of the planet…

Wake, Search, Move, Hide

From Cormac McCarthy
Author of
“No country for old men”

At the end of Civilization, an epic journey is about to begin

This Fall
Run, Protect, Sacrifice, Kill

Plot:
“A father (Viggo Mortensen) and his son (Kodi Smit-McPhee) walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. It is cold enough to crack stones, and, when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the coast, although they don’t know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing: just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food–and each other.”

Cast:
– Viggo Mortensen as the Man.
– Kodi Smit-McPhee as the Boy.
– Charlize Theron as the Wife (she appears in flashback).
– Michael K. Williams as a thief.
– Robert Duvall as an old, dying man.
– and Guy Pearce as a father wandering with his family.

The bleak future described in The Road is quite scary. And it does not need monsters or aliens to scare: just need humans turned savages…

The movie The Road will hit theaters on October 16th, 2009.

Viggo Mortensen The Road Release Date

The movie adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road directed by John Hillcoat and starring Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee was due for last year, but it’s been delayed because of post-production taking more time than expected.

The Road Release Date

Well, it seems they completed the job: the Weinstein Company is now announcing the release of the Road for October 16, 2009.

Plot of the Road:
“A father and his son walk alone through burned America.

Actor Viggo Mortensen will mesmerize us in his embodiment of the fater, with Kodi Smit-McPhee as his son.
:)

Road Movie

Still no official release date for The Road, a post-apocalyptic movie directed by John Hillcoat and starring Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee: damn, we are so many to long for this film! At least we got four new pics of the Road to mitigate the pain of our wait:

The Road is based on a book of the same name written by Cormac McCarthy. The story revolves around a father and his son who walk alone through burned America in a quest for a safe harbor.

Viggo Mortensen and The Road Delay

Viggo Mortensen recently explained via AintItCool why the release of The Road is taking longer than expected:

Viggo Mortensen About The Road In 2009

“My understanding is that they know that they’ve got a story that a lot of people want to see, because of the book. […] And, the people that read the book, which are many, were very moved by it and by this relationship between this boy and this man, in particular, in that setting. And, I think that they are really aware of the fact that they’ve got one chance to do it, and if there’s any little things that they still want to work on a little more, to get it just right, whether it’s the music –I don’t know what it is — a variety of things, they want to do it right. And, if you rush it out before you feel in good conscience it’s there … So, I am disappointed. I wanted to see it. I want to see how it is.”

Viggo Mortensen

So a theatrical release of The Road is still on the agenda (no direct to DVD for The Road like some may think). The delay is a bit annoying, but once can understand that the production company does no want to miss the high expectations of the fans of Cormac McCarthy’s novel.
:)

The Road Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee

I just spotted a beautiful black and white picture of John Hillcoat‘s The Road, an upcoming post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie starring Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee:

The Road Movie

(Click on the picture to enlarge it.)
Viggo and Kodi in The Road
This father from The Road will do anything to protect his child!

For Viggo Mortensen , The Road is more than bleak imagery:

“I spoke with Cormac before we started shooting. […] I think what’s made this story so universally loved is because it’s really about protecting your child, no matter what the circumstances.
[…]
At its core, it’s a love story.”
Viggo Mortensen (in USA Today)

I totally agree with Viggo Mortensen! But maybe as a father I’m positively biased for the movie The Road!
:)

John Hillcoat The Road Movie Teaser Poster

Director John Hillcoat has been working The Road, a movie adaptation of a book of the same name written by Cormac McCarthy. The movie was due for this November but it has been postponed for whatever reason… And it looks like that the movie will actually have its release in 2009. Anyway, here The Road teaser poster:

The Road Movie Poster

The Road Movie Teaser Poster

The Road is the heartbreaking tale of a Man who tries to bring his son to safety: to do so they have to cross America through a post apocalyptic landscape haunted by cannibals…

I was surprised to see the name of Guy Pearce on top this poster of the Road, his name is even above the name of Viggo Mortensen, so I checked the cast again:

Viggo Mortensen as the Man.

Kodi Smit-McPhee as the Boy.

Charlize Theron as the Wife (she appears in flashback).

– Michael K. Williams as a thief.

– Robert Duvall as an old, dying man.

– and Guy Pearce as a father wandering with his family.

If i can link this to the original book written by I think that Guy Pearce is the final savior who will take in charge the Man’s son.

The Road Is Your November Post-Apocalyptic Fix

The Road is full of danger!

Cormac McCarthy’s book The Road has been adapted to the cinema. The film, also titled the Road, should be released in November 2008.

More details at: The Road Is Full Of Cannibals In November 2008

Under the direction of Sam Mendes, actors Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee will be father and son in a perilous journey through a blasted post-apocalyptic world. It is said so bleak that it would make Mad Mad look like a kind-hearted Disney movie… Must be some exaggeration in this assertion though….
