Michael Mann is working on Public Enemies, a new gangster period movie starring Christian Bale and Johnny Depp respectively as FBI agent Melvin Purvis and Gangster John Dillinger. Take a look to those pictures of the movie Public Enemies:
In real life I’d sign for sending John Dilinger to the electric chair, but in this movie, I can but take his side if his role is played by Johnny Depp: Depp is a so much better actor than Christian Bale!
Don’t miss the movie Public Enemies in July 2009!

Adoration is an upcoming drama movie directed by Atom Egoyan. The film is starring Rachel Blanchard, Scott Speedman, and Devon Bostick. Adoration is slated for a limited release on May 8, 2009.
The film was first shown in May 2008 at the Cannes Film Festival. Adoration won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and was nominated for the Palme d’Or.
Here below the first official trailer of the movie Adoration:
Plot:
“An adolescent, Simon, reinvents his life on the Internet by recreating his life around two historical figures. His story provokes strong reactions throughout the world. Cyberspace is a forum for victims. But is it a place for redemption?”
The plot sounds a bit too intricate to me, but the soundtrack of the movie, if as well chosen as in this trailer of Adoration, could get me into following the kid trying to learn the truth and discover things.
Director Atom Egoyan seems intrigued by the potential uses and abuses of technology. We may see the teenager having video chat sessions: just hope that Director Erdogan does not abuse of this plot gimmick in the movie Adoration.

I just spotted a beautiful black and white picture of John Hillcoat‘s The Road, an upcoming post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie starring Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee:
(Click on the picture to enlarge it.)
This father from The Road will do anything to protect his child!
For Viggo Mortensen , The Road is more than bleak imagery:
“I spoke with Cormac before we started shooting. […] I think what’s made this story so universally loved is because it’s really about protecting your child, no matter what the circumstances.
[…]
At its core, it’s a love story.”
Viggo Mortensen (in USA Today)
I totally agree with Viggo Mortensen! But maybe as a father I’m positively biased for the movie The Road!

New in Town is an upcoming romantic comedy movie directed by Jonas Elmer. The film stars Renée Zellweger and Harry Connick Jr.. New In Town should be released on January 30, 2009.
This January
New In Town
Plot:
“Lucy Hill (Renee Zellweger) is an ambitious, up and coming executive living in Miami. She loves her shoes, she loves her cars and she loves climbing the corporate ladder. When she is offered a temporary assignment in a town in Minnesota – in the middle of nowhere – to restructure a manufacturing plant, she jumps at the opportunity, knowing that a big promotion is close at hand. What begins as a straight forward job assignment becomes a life changing experience as Lucy discovers greater meaning in her life and most unexpectedly, the man of her dreams (Harry Connick, Jr.).”
A sophisticated girl from the city, newly arrived to a small country town, gets in love with a local countrified chap: that’s cliché! And the the plot is set in Minnesota, but the movie was actually filmed in Winnipeg and Selkirk, Canada…
But Renee Zellweger looks so sweet in her role that one can but forgive the flaws of the movie New In Town.
Promo clips for Battlestar Galactica Season 4 Part 2, aka BSG 4.5, have been aired during the Bond marathon last night. Thanks to SevorTBa fellow BSG fan we may watch them again:
Director Guillermo Del Toro knows he’s been entrusted a real responsibility with the movie adaptation of The Hobbit, check those interviews made a while ago:
We are all longing for a new movie saga based on J.R.R. Tolkien‘s fantasy novels! Let’s hope that Guillermo Del Toro will bring us a great Hobbit movie! 2011, the scheduled year of release for the Hobbit movie, seems so far suddenly!

Woody Allen is studying love further, in his own way, with Whatever Works, a new romance comedy movie. The film, written and directed by Woody Allen, is starring Larry David, Patricia Clarkson and Evan Rachel Wood. It is scheduled to be released in early 2009.
Here below a first look at the movie Whatever Works:
(Click on the picture to enlarge it.)
Plot:
“Whatever Works revolves around an eccentric man (Larry David) taken into a series of adventures and encounters with his friends from Greenwich, a young woman from the South (Evan Rachel Wood), and her parents.”
Below the trailer of Whatever Works:
WHATEVER WORKS
I’m dying! I mean, not now… Eventually!
The movie was filmed in New York City: it marks the return of Woody Allen to the city of his heart after a four film sojourn in Europe. And judging from those pictures of the movie Whatever Works he is going to film the real New York.
Real people, real world, and a funny twisted story; that’s the very fabric of Woody Allen’s movies. With this surprising director Whatever works!

Ten new Cadillac Records preview clips are available as the official release of the movie is nearing. Don’t miss the clip featuring Beyonce as Etta James singing ‘At Last‘:
Describing a post-apocalyptic future must be trendy: there is a a new independent movie titled White Wall that’s presenting a bleak world in which almost all of Mankind seems to have been wiped out by some mysterious virus following a war. The movie White Wall is directed by James Boss.
Upon seeing the director listed in the cast of his own movie I started to think it was but a low budget sci-fi movie. Fortunately I went to the official site and I must admit that I am now caught in the universe of White Wall. I strongly recommend to visit the official site of White Wall (here).
To convince you, just have a look to this first official teaser trailer of White Wall:
Plot:
“A virus has decimated humanity and left the world in squalor and full of violence. Shawn Kors world is confined to a large white wall and he looks for a way out and a cure to the virus, VXII, until he gets close to the truth.
Set in a wasteland enclosed by a large white wall, the last survivor from a brutal child internment camp reluctantly takes on one final bounty hunting job to protect the idyllic life he has rebuilt.”
Here below two stills from the movie (via Quiet Earth):
The movie looks like an artistic take on a potential post-apocalyptic future. Director James Boss shows a real creativity. If the acting is good enough to translate the universe we have a glimpse of on the official site, White Wall could become a cult movie or at least, be a stepping stone for James Boss’ career as film director.
The movie should be released in 2009. No official date yet though, not even sure it will have a theatrical release, but would be great to see this in a theater.

The January 2009 issue of Empire Magazine will definitely be worth buying: besides the Wolverine cover, there is a first look at Christian Bale and Johnny Depp in the movie Public Enemies.
Plot:
“The Feds try to take down notorious American gangsters John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd during a booming crime wave in the 1930s.” (Source: IMDb)
The movie Public Enemies is directed by Michael Mann and should be released on July 1, 2009. Let’s have a closer look to the cast of Public Enemies:
Cast:
– Johnny Depp as John Dillinger: An American bank robber whose exploits dominated the press during what is sometimes referred to as the public enemy era, between 1931 and 1935.
– Christian Bale as Melvin Purvis: An FBI agent chosen by J. Edgar Hoover to lead a manhunt to catch Dillinger.
– Marion Cotillard as Billie Frechette: Dillinger’s torch singer girlfriend.
– Channing Tatum as Pretty Boy Floyd: An American bank robber and alleged killer.
Public Enemies has an impressive cast. I hope Director Michael Mann has been able to manage such a cast to give us a great period gangster movie.

Director Robert Luketic (legally Blonde) is bringing us a new romantic comedy movie titled The Ugly Truth. It is starring Gerard Butler, Katherine Heigl, Cheryl Hines and Bonnie Somerville. The Ugly Truth movie should be released on April 3, 2009 July 24, 2009.

This Spring
The UGLY TRUTH
Plot:
“A romantically challenged morning show producer (Heigl) is reluctantly embroiled in a series of outrageous tests by her chauvinistic correspondent (Butler) to prove his theories on relationships and help her find love. His clever ploys, however, lead to an unexpected result.” (Source: IMDb)
Cast:
– Katherine Heigl as the romantically challenged morning show producer;
– Gerard Butler as her chauvinistic correspondent;
– Cheryl Hines as a co-anchor of the morning show.
What about you like it on top? Right, some easy jokes in The Ugly Truth, but one should not refrain from laughing! Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler are a good match. The Ugly Truth is a nice movie to start Springs before entering in the summer of love!
;-P
In case you still don’t know: Battlestar Galactica is a reboot by Producer Ron Moore of a sci-fi series from the 1970’s: where humans aboard spaceships try to survive to relentless attacks by robots called cylons. That’s probably the best sci fi TV show of the last two decade!
Here below a trailer of Battlestar Galactica Season 4 Part 2:
