Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have acquired U.S. rights to the sci-fi animated movie Terra. The movie, which seems to be retitled Battle for Terra, will be released on May 1.
Despite many awards the film took time to get a theatrical release: it’s probably because most distribution companies were too lazy to try to find an original way to market Battle for Terra. It’s an animated movie, but real issues are raised, and in Battle for Terra the world isn’t black or white: it’s a mix of both like in real life.
Plot – Synopsis:
“Mala (Evan Rachel Wood) is a precocious girl living on the beautiful planet Terra, a place where peace and tolerance are celebrated. However, the last inhabitants of Earth have exhausted the resources of their planet and are now searching for a new home. This Earthforce has discovered that the use of a Terraformer will make Terra habitable for humans but poisonous for Terrians. When the Earthlings embark on a hostile invasion of Terra, Mala’s father, Roven (Dennis Quaid), is kidnapped. Hoping to save her father, Mala captures and hides a crashed human pilot named Jim (Luke Wilson). While Mala nurses Jim back to health, the two forge a friendship and a plan that could save both the human race and the planet of Terra.”
I hope that the movie Battle for Terra will get a wide release!

Inglourious Basterds is the correctly misspelled title of Quentin Tarantino‘s latest movie. The film is inspired by the 1978 movie Inglorious Bastards. Brad Pitt and Melanie Laurent have the lead roles in a very large cast. Quentin Tarantino is working hard in order to premiere the film at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2009, but the official U.S. release is on August 21, 2009.
Inglourious Basterds Movie by Quentin Tarantino
Take a look to this picture of Brad Pitt as Lt. Aldo Raine in the Inglourious Basterds:

Plot:
“Inglourious Basterds begins in German-occupied France, where Shoshanna Dreyfus (MĂ©lanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema.
Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution. Known to their enemy as “The Basterds,” Raine’s squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquee, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own…”
A group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution? Hey that’s the stance of Liev Schreiber in Defiance!
The movie Inglourious Basterds will probably be as strange and awesome as Kill Bill!

A GI Joe character poster featuring Lee Byung-Hun as Storm Shadow has been unveiled:

I spotted on Google Image (here) two pictures with a better look at Storm Shadow:
This Storm Shadow just looks like John Preston (played by Christian Bale) in the sci-fi movie Equilibrium: his outfit is all white! It would have been better if they had kept the red cobra on the outfit:
The movie New in Town, directed by Jonas Elmer, is set in New Ulm, Minnesota. Renée Zellweger, who just moved in the country town, is going to overcome her prejudices of city dweller, and will learn to appreciate the small city besides falling in love with and Harry Connick Jr., a local chap.
Here below the latest TV spot of New in Town:
The movie New in Town will hit our theaters on January 30, 2009.

Gollum is proudly standing (well kind of standing… ) on the cover of the March issue of Empire magazine:

As an incentive to buy the latest issue, Empire is sharing a quote from an interview with del Toro:

WATCHMEN
This city is afraid of me.
I’ve seen its true face.
Carriers is an upcoming thriller horror movie written and directed the Pastor brothers (Alex Pastor and David Pastor). The movie follows four friends who try to get away from a worldwide flu pandemic that almost wiped out mankind in a very short time span. It is starring Lou Taylor Pucci, Chris Pine, Piper Perabo and Emily VanCamp.
Watch below the movie trailer of Carriers:
A deadly virus has spread across the globe. Contagion is everywhere, no one is safe and no one can be trusted. Four young attractive people race through the back roads of the American West to the pounding beat of a vacation soundtrack. Their aim is to retreat to secluded utopian beach in the Gulf of Mexico, where they could peacefully wait out the pandemic and survive the apocalyptic disease. CARRIERS follow their getaway through a surreal and dangerous world where laws and rules no longer apply. Their plans take a grim turn when their car breaks down on an isolated road starting a chain of events that will seal the fate of each of them in an inexorable and horrifying voyage of hell through a western landscape populated by only the hideous dead or the twisted living. Their desperate retreat south turns into a deadly battle against infected children, homicidal doctors, crazed survivalists, rabid dogs, and, finally each other. The virus is the least of their problems as horrible choices must be made in the face of lost humanity.”
I’m both thrilled and horrified by this Carriers movie!
The premise of this post-apocalyptic thriller isn’t so farfetched: a deadly mutation of a bird flu in the near future is not so unlikely… And the new virus resulting from such a mutation could infect millions of people around the world, causing a flu pandemic worse than ever! Would be a bleak future…
I doubt that the carriers would have murderous thoughts like in the film though. But still, this is a hell of a movie! Can’t understand why the movie doesn’t have an official release date yet. Carriers deserves a theater release! Hope that Paramount vantage will really support the movie.
In the new world order there will be no saviors or survivors: there will be only carriers!
:)
