Jennifer Yuh Nelson, who was head of story on the first Kung Fu Panda, is taking over the direction of the movie sequel Kung Fu Panda 2, which is officially titled Kung Fu Panda The Kaboom of Doom. Dreamworks will release Kung Fu Panda 2 next year on June 3, 2011. Jack Black and the other members of the voice cast will of course reprise their roles. Dreamworks announced that Kung Fu Panda 2 The Kaboom of Doom will be in 3D and will be released in digital and Imax theaters.

Plot:
“The plot will involve a new villain with a weapon so powerful it threatens the very existence of kung fu. It is up to Po, Shifu, and the Furious Five to defend it; and along the way, Po must confront his past.”

The first Kung Fu Panda movie was a great movie: a funny plot, awesome characters and gorgeous animation. If Dreamworks can keep the same combination while going 3D, then the movie Kung Fu Panda 2 will be a hit for sure! And I’m quite impatient to see Jack Black let the panda inside him go wild again!

Columbia pictures has hired Scriptwriter Steven Knight (Dirty Pretty Things) to pen the screenplay of the Lost Symbol adaptation, the third movie in the Da Vinci Code movie series. The film will be based on Dan Brown’s Lost Symbol in which Robert Langdon, who’s in Whashington, D.C, get involved in a story linked to Freemasonry. Tom Hanks will reprise his role as Robert Langdon and Ron Howard is quite likely to be back to as director of the Lost Symbol.

The official release date of the Lost Symbol hasn’t been announced yet, but we heard that Colombia Pictures is scheduling a 2012 release.

Plot:
“In The Lost Symbol, Robert Langdon (tom Hanks) goes to Washington to give a lecture at the request of his old mentor, Peter Solomon. When he arrives at the US Capitol for his lecture, he instead finds Peter’s severed hand mounted on a wooden base, fingers pointing skyward to the Rotunda ceiling fresco of George Washington ascending to heaven. This is the first in a line of clues where Langdon must decode the symbols of the Freemasons in order to stop a villain known as Mal’akh, a steroid-swollen, fantastically tattooed madman, who wants to locate a portal to the wisdom known as the Ancient Mysteries so he can then rule the world.”

The story of the Lost Symbol kind of sounds like the plot of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes… But I guess there will be more mystery in the Lost Symbol, after all, the film is based on a book by Dan brown, the Da Vinci Code’s author.

I’ve seen Percy Jackson and it was way better than expected. People in the theater really enjoyed the movie and Grover’s joke. So I think it’s going to be a blockbuster. Director Chris Colombus was quoted as saying:

No doubt that Logan Lerman, Brandon T Jackson, Alexandra Daddario will reprise their roles respectively as Percy, Grover and Annabeth: this new franchise will be a real stepping stone to their movie careers.
According to the online rumor, Percy Jackson 2 would be released sometime in 2012.

Riddick 3 has been officially greenlit by Universal Pictures. Of course Vin Diesel is back as Riddick. David Twohy (who wrote and directed the first two films in the series, Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick) will helm Riddick 3 based on a script he wrote. The plot is still kept secret, but according to Vin Diesel we’re going to find Riddick alone for the first part of the movie, barely alive, surrounded by carnivorous monsters who are trying to eat him. So we’ll see a futuristic Rambo-esque Riddick trying to survive, which is closer in tone to Pitch Black the first film of the series. The film is likely to be released released in 2011.

Betty Anne Waters is an upcoming drama movie directed by Tony Goldwyn and starring Hilary Swank, Sam Rockwell, Melissa Leo, Minnie Driver, Juliette Lewis and Peter Gallagher. The story revolves around a single working mother spends nearly two decades putting herself through law school and tirelessly trying to overturn her brother’s unjust murder conviction. The film is set to open in Fall 2010.

I didn’t know about Betty Anne Waters, that’s a truly inspiring story! The studio wants to promote the film as exploration of the profound bond between a brother and sister – a love so deep, so unequivocal, so complete that it becomes a force that will not be denied or defeated. But i see something more interesting in this story: that working hard and dedication to one’s goal can move mountains! Never give up, work hard to get what you really want!

Tom Cruise is reprising his role as Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible 4. No surprise here, but glad to have a confirmation.

Screenwriters Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec are attached to write the script, from an original idea by Cruise and Abrams.

This time JJ Abrams will be not be directing, but he’s helping to identify a director for Mission Impossible 4.

The film slated for release Memorial Day 2011.

Scriptwriter David Goyer has left the TV series Flash Forward (what a useless show!) to work again with Jonathan Nolan (Christopher Nolan’s brother) on the the script of Batman 3. It hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but Director Christopher Nolan will most likely direct Batman 3 and should start to work on this third Batman movie once Inception is released in Summer 2010. So David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan don’t have to rush to write the script.

Previous plans of carrying the Saw movie franchise until at least Saw 8 could well be scrapped according to Scriptwriter Marcus Dunstan. So as a result Saw 7 would be the last Saw movie:

Well, since Lionsgate has forced Kevin Greutert to leave Paranormal Activity 2 to come back to direct Saw 7, I guess the Saw series has been kind of cursed by some evil demon. So maybe time for the Saw series to come to an end, yep…
