Sometimes the most interesting characters in a movie aren’t the main heroes of the plot. Rhino the hamster in the movie Bolt is a stark example of second character stealing the show. Looks like we may have such a contender in the upcoming Disney Pixar movie UP. Indeed the dog is likely to get a fair part of your attention:

Let’s hope the dog will have enough scenes in the movie UP!

Moviegoer Elaine tipped us about a first look of Denzel Washington as Eli the savior in The Book of Eli, an upcoming post-apocalyptic movie directed by the Hughes brothers:

Plot:
“In the post-apocalyptic world of the book of Eli, civilization has collapsed and clean water has become the prime currency.
Washington plays a survivor who must fend off gangs and a brutal tyrant in this desolate wasteland.
Oldman will play the film’s villain, a despot of a small and pathetic town, who’s determined to get a hold of Eli’s book, a book that may save Mankind.”
In a previous teaser poster, Eli was portrayed with a samurai sword. I don’t see any sword on this picture. We already had Blade and Black Samurai, but I’d be happy to see Denzel Washington showing off with a sword: that would be damn cool! Sure, The book of Eli may save the world from its final decay at the end, but the sword would help to get things better in a timely manner.
Correction: actually looks like a sword is there on the table, I think indeed that’s a sword hilt near the backpack of Eli.
The Book of Eli is going to be an epic movie!

The movie Knowing is about a teacher (Nicolas Cage) who tries to prevent the chilling predictions of a mysterious time capsule brought back from school by his young son. Here below a clip of Knowing in which Nicolas cage tries to warn people about an upcoming subway accident:
Had I the knowledge of such an accident I would try to warn the police, but in no way I would run ahead of the event to experience it…. Crazy Nicolas Cage!
The movie Knowing will be released on March 20, 2009.

Plot of Crank High Voltage:
“Hitman Chev Chelios (Statham) launches himself on an electrifying chase through Los Angeles in pursuit of the Chinese mobster who has stolen his nearly indestructible heart and replaced it with a battery-powered heart that requires regular jolts of electricity to keep working.”

A new batch of preview clips of the new Street Fighter movie, aka Street Fighter The Legend of Chun-Li, has shown up online. Those new clips do no look as good as we may have expected from the earlier clip we’ve seen… I especially appreciate Moon Bloodgood’s performance (can’t say more, my wife checks this blog from time to time…)!

Three new pictures of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, upcoming movie starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, have shown up:

There is no doubt that Robert Downey Jr.’s interpretation of Sherlock Holmes will be in stark contrast with the former Sherlock Holmes movies: Downey’s version of Sherlock Holmes is a man that could run for the title of sexiest man of the year! I can tell as much for Jude Law as Dr. Watson. Director Guy Ritchie did bring a new life to the story created by Athur Conan Doyle!
The movie Sherlock Holmes will be released on December 25, 2009.

What movies from this list are you waiting for and why?
We’ve got two new international posters of Fast and Furious, upcoming movie starring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker:

Michelle Rodriguez is quite cute compared to the previous poster.
Not sure there is a connection, but this Fast and Furious poster and the US poster of the new Street Fighter movie must have been designed under the same influence…

Director Alejandro Amenabar is bringing us an historical drama movie that revolves around astrologer-philosopher Hypatia of Alexandria (Rachel Weisz) and her relationship with her slave Davus (Max Minghella). Here below the first movie trailer of Agora thanks to Slashfilm:
Alexandria, Egypt
391 Anno Domini
The world is going to change forever.
For a woman Hypatia was benefiting from an incredible freedom in this ancient time, though this was played against her at the end… We could say that she was an early feminist, a courageous and intelligent woman whose life was defying the prejudices of her time!
Director Amenabar went to the Island of Malta in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea to film Agora. Huge sets were built for the occasion. So well built, that we will feel like transported back to Antic Egypt!
